Childhood Reminiscing

When I was young and still at school I really was a nerd.
so let me run through all I did, as if you hadn't heard.

With a name like Dickon most expect I have thick skin,
but I remember when my best friends dumped me in a bin.

Although I was no prodigy I knew the rules of chess,
I once beat our team captain who then started playing less.

My friends all say that when I won I rubbed it in their face,
but this I doubt as I never ranked higher than fifth place.

I was the school team captain for a basketball tourney,
which was a coup considering I stood at five foot three.

Yet it was also in the gym where my street-cred did shrink.
for my sisters had held me down and dyed my toenails pink.

And then there was then time I almost got that kid expelled,
as he'd burnt me with red hot tongs so much that my neck smelled.

There was one really nasty kid whose every deed seemed cruel,
he'd beat me up as I walked through the alley to my school.

But the very worst instance that haunts me to this day.
was when down by the shore the rest did stone me out the bay.

Yet here's the secret from those days of which I rarely talk,
which is that after every class I'd steal the teachers chalk.
