New Beginnings

My wife gave birth to twins this night,
but what was a surprise,
was hearing them both giggling,
a sparkle in their eyes.

For moments after they were born,
flew in a mighty crow.
Which hinted at the brief return
of my dear Bellifloe.

With feathers stained by berry juice,
and beak that smelled of cheese,
it sang and hopped and flapped its wings,
which tickled both their knees.

For such a sign I wept with joy,
and hugged my darling wife.
Then told her that our children had
been blessed a happy life.

At first I saw a trace of doubt
creep up onto her face.
But soon enough she joined me
as I bounced about the place.

It also solved the riddle of how
we should name them so,
for the blonde one we named Bella,
and the ginger we called Flo.

So every evening as I go
to tuck them in at night,
I'll tell them of our secret friends
who never curse or fight.

They only ever dance and play,
or tell a merry joke.
For their in sync with nature,
such a peaceful happy folk.
